Remembrance Day

Our learners spent the day remembering those who have lost their lives fighting in wars to keep us safe and return us to peace. They discussed the diversity of those involved; men and women from all cultures and religions, and considered what their sacrifices meant to us all

Dosbarth Gwrydd looked at Indian Sikhs and how they played a key role in the British army during World War one. In Dosbarth Aur learners used maths lessons to explore statistics about immigration and then went on to discuss the theme of social injustice and the ‘truth’ about the impact of immigration in the UK.

Dosbarth Du learnt about Wales’ first black headteacher and champion of multiculturalism, Betty Campbell.

After all of these amazing activities our learners created their own designs, wreaths and displays which reflected their personal feelings about wars of all kinds.

We also raised £60 for the Poppy Appeal during the week which is brilliant!

Children in Need 2021

This year’s Children in Need was celebrated in school with a non uniform day for staff and learners with everyone contributing a donation to this great cause. The fundraising didn’t stop there though! We also had bacon butties for sale cooked in our very own Bush Crafts Kitchen in the woods! Always a popular choice and money spinner which helped to boost our total raised to £62.80.

Well done everyone!

Snowden Sponsored Walk

On a rainy and cold day in October, Staff from QEWC completed a sponsored walk up Snowden…and down again! The walk was completed in memory of our QEWC colleague and friend Wayne and everyone returned safely back to back to base cold, wet but so proud as they raised way over £2000 for the Nightingale House Hospice who supported Wayne and his family throughout his illness, and continue to offer their support to this day.

Tracy Mills who organised the event said:

Amazing effort by everyone in horrendous conditions and a very challenging climb.  Overwhelmed by the support and donations we’ve received for Nightingale House Hospice in memory of our wonderful friend and colleague.

A truly fantastic achievement and many congratulations and thanks to all who took part.
