Xplore - Science for HE programme

Date Published: 17/05/21

Last week we completed our ‘Science for HE’ programme of activities which were designed and delivered by the Xplore Science Centre in Wrexham. Our students had an amazing time with three school based sessions followed by a visit to the centre where they had the chance to try out the array of hands on exhibits and displays.

This was a fantastic opportunity for them to experience learning outside of the classroom, putting into context the knowledge they have already gained in their Science lessons in school. They also learnt and used a range of skills which will help them in the future, not only in school, but in their lives beyond education.

Take a look below at what some of our students had to say and take a look at our photos of the students and staff having a great time!.

What did our students have to say?

I enjoyed looking at the DNA of a strawberry through the microscope.

playing detective was fun!

I liked the different experiments we did

Our thanks goes to Xplore who opened up this fantastic opportunity for us and worked with our students and staff to make sure the sessions were exciting and relevant. We know they enjoyed working with us to and were proud to comment on the achievements of the students they met. This is what they said:

Students visited our centre, using their communication and interpersonal skills to engage with hands on science challenges and exhibits. They showed teamwork to solve puzzles, make music etc. Speed and critical thinking on the reaction timer, scarf blower and peddle power to make a delicious smoothie as a team. Activity sessions in school solved crimes with DNA extraction and fingerprints. Understood their digestive system and how to eat a healthy diet and the benefits of excercise. Developing their skills through experimentation and reflection
