Farmurban Aquaponics

Our last half term ended on a high note as our learners took part in the fantastic Farmurban Aquaponics Workshops.
The day was hosted by staff from the Xplore Science Centre in Wrexham and Farmurban in Liverpool who took the students through a range of activities which saw them build an Aquaponics pod (complete with artificial fish!) and learn about how food can be grown in a fully sustainable way using just water and nutrients. The end of session quiz tested their knowledge and they all did amazingly well!
The great news is that the fun doesn’t stop there. This term we will now be taking part in the Aquaponics Challenge, a six session programme which will put our very own Pod to great use as our learners take part in a sequence of lessons and experiments which look at the wider benefits of Aquaponics including a look at the range of exciting careers in this ever growing industry.
We are even going to have our own fish……real ones this time!
